Connecting People & Places

Quick Answer

Emirates flies from eight UK airports to Dubai: London Heathrow, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh. From Dubai, you can connect onwards across its network or break your journey with a stopover.

On most UK routes, your checked baggage allowance depends on your fare, from 20 kg on Economy Special to 50 kg in First Class. Meanwhile, Business and First Class fares can include Chauffeur-drive to and from the airport.

The Sunset Weekly Connection Reality: Flying with Emirates from eight major UK regional gateways offers convenient connections through Dubai for global travel or dedicated stopovers. Understanding tier-specific baggage limits ranging from 20 kg to 50 kg and taking advantage of premium perks like Chauffeur-drive service ensures a smooth, well-planned airport transition.

Common Emirates Baggage and Chauffeur-Drive Myths

Common Emirates Baggage and Chauffeur-Drive Myths

First of all, every route, rule and allowance in this guide comes from Emirates’ own website and press releases. For UAE entry rules, I used the UK government’s travel advice. I also read traveller discussions to see which questions come up most often.

As a result, some popular claims didn’t make it in. For example, you’ll sometimes read that a checked bag can measure up to 300 cm in total. Emirates, however, sets the limit at 203 cm for weight concept routes. Similarly, Emirates doesn’t publish a single UK distance limit for Chauffeur-drive, so I haven’t quoted one.

Which UK Airports Does Emirates Fly From?

Emirates lists eight UK departure airports. All of them connect to Dubai, where you can then change planes for the rest of its network.

AirportWhat Emirates has announced
London HeathrowSix daily flights from Terminal 3, all on the A380
London GatwickFour daily flights: three on the A380 and one on the A350, since February 2026
London StanstedFlights to Dubai
ManchesterRetrofitted A380 with Premium Economy on flights EK017/018 since June 2025
BirminghamFlights to Dubai
NewcastleFlights to Dubai
GlasgowFlights to Dubai
EdinburghDaily A350 flights since January 2025

Sources: Emirates flights from the UK page, Emirates London Heathrow route page and Emirates press releases (April 2025 to February 2026), checked 30 October 2026.

In total, Emirates says it runs 146 weekly flights across these eight UK airports from February 2026. However, schedules change by season, so check the timetable for your dates before you book.

A380, A350 or 777?

The aircraft matters, because cabins differ from one type to another. For instance, Emirates says its Gatwick A350 has 32 lie-flat Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 layout, 28 Premium Economy seats and 238 Economy seats.

Similarly, Emirates’ retrofitted A380 on Manchester flights EK017/018 has 56 Premium Economy seats in a 2-4-2 layout. By contrast, the Boeing 777 that Emirates added to Heathrow for winter 2025/26 had no Premium Economy cabin.

Therefore, before you pay, check the aircraft and seat map for each flight in your booking. That’s especially important if you’re paying for Premium Economy.

Emirates Cabin Classes Explained

Emirates Cabin Classes Explained - Emirates A380 First Class

Economy

Economy is the main cabin on every Emirates flight. Your checked bag allowance starts at 20 kg and rises with your fare, so the fare you pick matters as much as the price.

Premium Economy

As the name suggests, Premium Economy sits between Economy and Business. According to Emirates, the seats offer up to 40 inches of pitch, are 19.5 inches wide and recline by 8 inches. They also come with calf rests, footrests and a 13.3-inch screen.

However, Premium Economy isn’t on every aircraft. On UK routes, Emirates has introduced it on selected A380s, including flights from Heathrow and Manchester, and on the A350, including the fourth daily Gatwick flight.

Business Class

Business Class comes with a larger baggage allowance of 40 kg and, on eligible fares, Chauffeur-drive. On the A350, for example, Emirates fits lie-flat seats in a 1-2-1 layout, so every seat has aisle access.

First Class

At the top, First Class has the highest baggage allowance, at 50 kg. It also includes Chauffeur-drive on Emirates-operated flights.

Emirates Baggage Allowance From the UK

Emirates Baggage Allowance From the UK

Emirates uses two systems. The weight concept applies on most routes, including flights between the UK and Dubai. In contrast, the piece concept applies to flights to and from the Americas and to and from Africa.

Checked Baggage (Weight Concept)

Cabin and fareTotal checked allowance
Economy Special20 kg
Economy Saver25 kg
Economy Flex30 kg
Economy Flex Plus35 kg
Premium Economy35 kg
Business Class40 kg
First Class50 kg

Two rules apply to every bag. First, no single bag can weigh more than 32 kg. Second, the length, width and height of each bag shouldn’t add up to more than 203 cm.

There’s one exception worth knowing for long-haul trips from the UK. Emirates’ Economy Saver allowance rises to 30 kg on journeys from Europe to Australia or New Zealand, for tickets issued on or after 5 July 2024.

Cabin Baggage

CabinWhat you can bring
EconomyOne bag up to 7 kg, no larger than 55 x 38 x 22 cm
Premium EconomyOne bag up to 10 kg, no larger than 55 x 38 x 22 cm
Business and FirstOne 7 kg bag, plus a 7 kg briefcase (up to 45 x 35 x 20 cm) or garment bag

Also, Skywards Silver, Gold and Platinum members may get extra checked baggage on weight concept routes. Check your allowance in Manage Your Booking before you pack.

Dubai Stopovers: Two Ways to Break Your Journey

Dubai Stopovers Two Ways to Break Your Journey

If you’re flying beyond Dubai, Emirates offers two ways to spend time in the city first.

Dubai Connect (Free Hotel on Long Connections)

Dubai Connect is for travellers whose best available connection in Dubai is long, so it isn’t something you can simply choose. According to Emirates’ terms:

  • your connection must be between 6 and 26 hours,
  • it must be the shortest connection available for your journey, so you can’t choose a longer one to qualify,
  • both flights to and from Dubai must be operated by Emirates, on one ticket, and
  • Economy and Premium Economy fares must meet a minimum fare, which for most regions is USD 450 one way or USD 700 return.

If you qualify, Emirates covers the hotel, transfers and applicable meals. You can add Dubai Connect through Manage Your Booking, so check your eligibility well before you fly.

A Planned Dubai Stopover

Alternatively, you can choose to stop in Dubai on purpose. Emirates lets you add a stopover when you book, on either your outbound or return journey. It also sells packages, such as 24-hour and 48-hour Dubai highlights for short stays.

Once you’re there, also keep your boarding pass. With My Emirates Pass, you can use it for offers at restaurants, attractions and spas across Dubai and the UAE. The current offers run from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.

Do UK Passport Holders Need a Visa for Dubai?

No advance visa is needed. In fact, according to GOV.UK, British citizens get a free visitor visa on arrival in the UAE, valid for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. However, your passport must be valid for at least 6 months from the date you arrive.

If you’re only changing planes and not leaving the airport, your passport needs at least 3 months’ validity instead. Since entry rules can change, check GOV.UK’s UAE travel advice before you travel.

Chauffeur-Drive From UK Airports

For Business and First Class travellers, Chauffeur-drive is a key benefit. Here’s how it works, according to Emirates.

QuestionAnswer
Who gets it?First Class on Emirates-operated flights, and Business Class on Saver, Flex and Flex Plus fares
Who doesn’t?Skywards Business and First Class Classic Rewards, Economy-to-Business upgrades and codeshare flights operated by other airlines
How do I book? When you book, or later in Manage Your Booking

Because the free-mileage limit varies by city, check your pickup address in Manage Your Booking before you rely on the service, especially if you live far from the airport.

Booking Tips for Winter and Summer 2027

  • Hold your fare: for Economy bookings, Emirates’ Hold My Fare lets you reserve a fare for 24 hours free of charge while you decide.
  • Compare UK airports: with eight UK departure points, a regional airport may suit you better than London.
  • Check the aircraft: if you want Premium Economy, confirm it’s on every flight in your booking.
  • Book school holidays early: Christmas, Easter and summer are the busiest times for UK families, so seats on preferred dates go first.
  • Check Dubai Connect at booking: if your best connection is long, you may qualify for a free hotel.

What Travellers Say About Emirates

What Travellers Say About Emirates

Before writing this guide, I read traveller forums for a picture of the Emirates experience. Here are the common themes, paraphrased.

  • Business Class perks: travellers often single out Chauffeur-drive, lounge access and lie-flat seats as highlights.
  • Economy comfort: many say Emirates Economy compares well on long-haul flights, with the ice entertainment system a regular favourite.
  • Long connections: Dubai Connect is often praised, although some travellers find the eligibility rules confusing.

Travellers also share practical tips. For instance, some say paid upgrades can be expensive, so compare the cabin price at booking rather than at the airport. Others, meanwhile, recommend checking connection times carefully on multi-stop journeys.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  1. Assuming every flight has Premium Economy. It’s only on selected aircraft, so check each flight.
  2. Booking a longer connection to get a free hotel. Dubai Connect only applies when you’re on the shortest available connection.
  3. Expecting Chauffeur-drive on a reward ticket. Classic Rewards and Economy-to-Business upgrades don’t include it.
  4. Packing one heavy bag. Even within your allowance, no single bag can exceed 32 kg.
  5. Forgetting passport validity. The UAE requires at least 6 months’ validity on arrival.

Is Emirates Right for Your Trip?

Emirates is a strong choice if:

  • you live near one of its eight UK airports,
  • you’re flying beyond Dubai to Asia, Africa or Australia,
  • you want a stopover in Dubai on the way, or
  • you’re flying Business Class and want Chauffeur-drive.

Check the details first if:

  • you want Premium Economy, since it depends on the aircraft, or
  • you’re travelling on Economy Special with a lot of luggage, because the allowance is 20 kg.

Final Verdict

Overall, Emirates gives UK travellers a wide choice of departure airports, with eight UK airports linked to Dubai. Its weight-based baggage allowances are simple to plan around, while Dubai Connect and planned stopovers make long journeys easier. If you’re flying Business Class on an eligible fare, Chauffeur-drive adds real convenience at both ends. Just check the aircraft, your fare type and your passport before you book, and then you’re ready to go.
